Emergency Medical Services
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is an exciting field within public safety which allows people to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to ill or injured patients. Once arriving on the scene, trained EMS providers deliver lifesaving care and treatment to help those in their time of need. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) issues certificates to individuals who have successfully completed EMT or paramedic training and fulfill all testing and background requirements.
If interested in a career in EMS, Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire District is a great place to start. We respond to both medical and fire calls in the Beaver Dam/Littlefield communities, including Scenic, Arizona. Our response area is mostly rural with a major interstate. We respond to medical, car accidents, fires, wild land, search and rescue, and more. In order to be considered, you must volunteer for at least 2 ride-along shifts. Please contact Chief Hunt or Assistant Chief Ojeda with any questions Monday-Friday 0800-1600.
Current Opportunities
The following opportunities are available for those interested in serving this community:
Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT)
EMTs provide basic life support services, including oxygen administration, bandaging, splinting, and other first aid measures. EMTs operate emergency vehicles and transport patients to the medical facility. They maintain patient care reports, files and forms. They also clean and maintain equipment, vehicles and sleeping quarters.
Current EMT-Basic Certificate IS REQUIRED at time of application to be considered for employment as an EMT-Basic.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
Personnel at the AEMT level perform all EMT functions, as well as advanced interventions, such as starting intravenous lines and administering certain medications. An AEMT is able to care for critical and emergent patients. They may work under chaotic and emergency situations and guide and communicate with victims who may be distressed. AEMTs assist with public education, fire prevention, and disaster preparedness programs.
Current AEMT Certificate IS REQUIRED at time of application to be considered for employment as an AEMT.
Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (Paramedic)
Paramedics provide all the same functions as an EMT and AEMT. However, they possess advanced training which gives them complex skills and knowledge. Paramedics have a greater understanding of anatomy (the structure of the human body) and physiology (how the body works). They adapt quickly and efficiently to changing priorities, tasks, emergencies and environmental circumstances.
Current EMT-Paramedic License IS REQUIRED at time of application to be considered for employment as a Paramedic.
